Thanks for the help in posting pictures, still learning how to use the internet.

This was found on private property adjacent to Perryville Battlefield, approximately 6 inches deep and near other recovered items; musket ball, suspender buckle, and a fragmet of a Parrott Gun artilary shell. I thought it could be a sword handle or a large knife handle.

I've seen many carved minie balls on the internet but has anyone ever found a carved musket ball?

Thanks for your help,

Carl

Although living in the UK I am very interested in the American Civil War but am new to collecting. My first of probably many questions is, how can I establish if a 15mm Union Artillery button I have is from a Cuff or Kepi?

Any help is much appreciated.

My half sister found these items in an old matchbox in her mother's belongings after she passed away.  She showed them to an historian in one of those "roadshows".  They told her they were some kind of "death medals".  They are made of brass, I believe.  There is a red scroll tied to the metal with a string.  There appears to a tiny piece of metal sewn into the end of the scroll.  Can anyone identify what these are?  Or does anyone have any information on how we could look up what they are?

Can anyone identify this old brass piece? I dug it in a confederate site a couple of months ago. I included the .58 cal. bullet to show it's size. It is heavy, and solid brass.

Sorry .... due to my computer skills deficiency, this is the only pic I could manage to get on here for now.  I know it's still hard to see.

Hi, I have recently purchased a confederate belt buckle at a local auction in my home town. I am very curious about the buckle. When it was being sold the auctioneer advertised it as some kind of crate seal but on closer examination(after I bought it very resonable) It is a buckle. In large letters it says C.S.A. this is very visable but what wasn't seen at the auction is what raises my curiousity. In much smaller less destinctive print above the CSA it reads "Libby prison". below the CSA it reads"Richmond Virginia Guard company A". The buckle looks very real weather it is or not I'm not sure but I am very interested in the item as I have never seen a specific buckle of this nature. There are no hooks on the back and there are 2 tiny holes one on each side. The buckle is square in shape. can anyone tell me anything about this??

I'm brand new to metal detecting and this is what I found on day two. I know the pictures may not be too good, but are these civil war bullets or post civil war bullets??? Also, I believe this is a flat button as well, am I right or wrong?

Much thanks

Hello friends. Wondered what your thoughts were on this old buckle i aquired from the estate sale of an elderly gentleman who did lots of diving for relics. I'm thinking that it might be a really old repo but the lead on back looks old and similar to lead that i dig up metal detecting. Any help would be appreciated. thank you in advance. Buckle is 3.5 inches wide.
