I have currently been relic hunting on a piece of private property adjacent to Hawkins Farm and the Wilderness Church in Spotsylvania County, VA this photo shows a few items that i have found but not to sure what could be dated to the civil war such as the horseshoe and fork. I believe there is a plethora of good relics on this property as the property is related to Jackson's Flank attack where Howard's Union XI Corps were caught off gaurd as Jackson initiated the attack with Rodes leading the charge through the wilderness. I am sure to have more posts as i continue to hunt this property.

This item was found lodged in the rafters of a house my father was born in. The house is in Vicksburg, MS. My father was born in 1904. The story I was told by my father was that they found it while putting a new roof on the house and they could see the hole where it came through, which had been patched over.

Thinking it was a cannonball and that the round lip was the fuse, I had someone attempt to drill it out and remove the gunpowder. He just brought it back to me and said he had drilled about half way into the back side and had not found a cavity. He said he believed it was solid cast iron and did not believe it was a cannonball.

The round lip seems to have some brass inside of it. I am reluctant to scratch around until I know what it is.

It is approximately 5.4" in diameter and has a raised ring all the way around it. It is very heavy and I haven't attempted to weigh it. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

We have found a few of these potential Requa-Billinghurst Minies on private property in the last few weeks...

I would like some additional input and/or verification as to what they are...before I proclaim we have found Requa Minies...

Diamete measurements were obtained by taking 12 seperate measurements and averaging them. If I eliminate the two lowest and two highest I get a diameter of 0.540".

Just a question regarding 'Star Based' mini ball .58 Cal bullets.

I have searched all the records looking for a reference to Star based .58 cal bullets and where they were produced. The common saying is that they are referred to as being produced at the Washington Arsenal but there is no proof that they were made there.

Does anyone have a record of Star based bullets being produced at any arsenal and if so which one.

There is no bullet order reference listed in the ORs that I have been able to pull from any reference book so far but there again I do not have every reference book written.

Please advise.

Hello everyone! I recently discovered an old civil war letter dated may 15, 1865 in which the author mentions Jefferson Davis being captured (was captured may 10) and talks about all of the troops in louisville and indianapolis being mustered out and going home. Its an interesting letter in good shape with the envelope and stamp still intact as well as several locks of hair presumably from the man who wrote the letter (it was to his wife). It appears as though the mans name was John Loopmire. Would a letter like this be worth anything? Thanks!

I found this with a bunch of stuff that came out of an old storage building and the other things with it indicated that whoever it belonged to came from Virginia.

I have tried to find out by researching it myself whether or not it is a cannonball and so far I'm still confused.

The round indentations on it are exactly opposite of each other and on the ball itself has this: "8 LB".

This buckle measures 45X64mm. It has 3 solder spots on the back where apparently hooks were once attached. It appears to be a Rectangular CSA- Atlanta Arsenal style but runs smaller than those in Mullinax's book and no hooks were cast with the buckle. The brass has a fairly nice patina.Has anybody out there come across a similar buckle? Could it be wartime or is it a reproduction? Any feedback would be apprieciated,Thanks,Charles Buckalew.

Does anyone know if this was the location of the narrow guage railroad or old dorset road. About 50 ft from dorset road into my driveway there is a large amount of large gravel for no apparent reason. Are there any historical maps that may show what was at this location. I found a quartz arrow head laying on top the ground on the back of the property.

This knife has been puzzling us for a some time now. I've searched quite a while for specific info on this interesting knife and each answer leads to more questions.

I've found a fair amount of information about the knife's manufacturer: Corsan Denton Burdekin & Co made lots of knives, saws and razors near Derbyshire/Sheffield England in the 1850's it seems.

Republica Mexicana implies it was Spanish military I understand?

When I add "Calafornia Knife" to my searches though, I come up with nothing but blanks and typos.

Any help identifying or pricing this nifty relic would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an "FD" button at a flea market for 50 cents and I knew it was either Civil War or Post Civil War, but it was worth the gamble for only 50 cents. When I started researching information about it, I found out that it's dated anywhere between 1865-1882, but that's the only information I could find. The back mark reads "M.C. Lilley & Co. Columbus O", and the front has the letters "F.D." surrounded by a wreath. I was wondering if there was a way to determine the exact year of this button or any other information. Any help would be much appreciated. (Sorry for not including pictures, it wouldn't let me upload them)

My friends dad found the on the banks of the Patapsaco river back in the seventies. The spot is just south of Baltimore,Md. and not too far away from Ft.McHenry.Its about 7.5 inches across and pretty heavy. It has a few dimples in it that look to be from when it was made.

It was found about a mile away from Ft.Armistead and Ft. Carroll also....

I'm not sure if its from the war of 1812 or the Civil War.

Hi All,

I am a collector of all things unusual and know nothing about Civil War Relics. I was told that this was an authentic "field fired" Civil War Bullet from Port Hudson, LA. Can someone look at this and identify what type of bullet it is? Which side used it...etc....(or even if it's real). Any information would be greatly appreciated. It has a damaged top, two rings at the bottom and what appears to be a "horseshoe" or "U" on the bottom but - but I'm not sure about that last part and may just be seeing things there (lol). Thanks!
